Edinburgh Fringe top ten jokes

The Fringe Festival has been and gone. And here is the top ten jokes as voted by the public once a panel of judges had reduced the total number of entries to 27.

• 1) Dan Antopolski - "Hedgehogs - why can't they just share the hedge?"

• 2) Paddy Lennox - "I was watching the London Marathon and saw one runner dressed as a chicken and another runner dressed as an egg. I thought: 'This could be interesting'."

• 3) Sarah Millican - "I had my boobs measured and bought a new bra. Now I call them Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes because they're up where they belong."

• 4) Zoe Lyons - "I went on a girls' night out recently. The invitation said 'dress to kill'. I went as Rose West."

• 5) Jack Whitehall - "I'm sure wherever my dad is; he's looking down on us. He's not dead, just very condescending."

• 6) Adam Hills - "Going to Starbucks for coffee is like going to prison for sex. You know you're going to get it, but it's going to be rough."

• 7) Marcus Brigstocke - "To the people who've got iPhones: you just bought one, you didn't invent it!"

• 8) Rhod Gilbert - "A spa hotel? It's like a normal hotel, only in reception there's a picture of a pebble."

• 9) Dan Antopolski - "I've been reading the news about there being a civil war in Madagascar. Well, I've seen it six times and there isn't."

• 10) Simon Brodkin (as Lee Nelson) - "I started so many fights at my school - I had that attention-deficit disorder. So I didn't finish a lot of them."

And also here are some of the worst jokes:

Carey Marx - "I'm not doing any Michael Jackson jokes, because they always involve puns about his songs. And that's bad."

Frank Woodley - "I phoned the swine flu hotline and all I got was crackling."

Alex Maple - "Michael Jackson only invented the moonwalk so he could sneak up on children."

Phil Nichol - "She's got a face like a rare Chinese vase - minging."

Alistair McGowan - "I've just split up from my girlfriend, which is a shame, because it was a long-standing arrangement. Perhaps if we'd sat down a bit more..."

The People's Chart

What is The People's Chart?

This was a three-hour special for Easter Monday, presented by Rob Brydon. It is a countdown of the UK’s most-heard recordings of the last 75 years. These are the records that have “outplayed” all others, not just on the radio but everywhere music is heard in public, from cafés to clubs and from high street to hospital radio.

The chart has been produced by PPL, the industry body that licenses recorded music on behalf of more than 3500 record companies. 2009 marks PPL’s 75th anniversary, and this special survey is being revealed first on Radio 2. Rob presents the records that have been spun the most in clubs, pubs, supermarkets, stadia, on jukeboxes, everywhere, since way back in 1934.

It’s a chart overflowing with surprises, which truly reflects the history of recorded music, not just in the rock and pop era but with songs from the crooning, show tune and big band eras. Rob reveals eyebrow-raising entries for the Beatles, Elvis and the Stones, and many other startling achievements.

You can listen to this program again until Monday the 20th of April 2009 on this link.

I am off to the Theatre!

Well, this IS good news. I managed to get a couple of hours off work so I could run off to the theatre to watch the latest production of Waiting For Godot at the Theatre Royal in Brighton. It is not usual for me to spot something I want to go and see at the Theatre. I wanted to go and see Little Shop of Horrors but, unfortunately, I could not have the time off work to go. But this time we prepared well in advance, and on the 28th of March I am off!

It is not only that it is a good play, it is also the fact that the two main leads are none other that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

A friend of mine I am going with is hoping that Mr McKellen will reprise his role as Magneto and warn the audience that if they do not turn their mobiles off he will melt them, I suppose Mr Stewart would then have to reprise his role as Professor Xavier and rein him in. These are such two great Shakespearian actors that I just cannot wait a minute longer. Although knowing my luck I will get their understudies, as happened years back when we went to see Jason Donovan as Frank in The Rocky Horror Show and he was off that evening with throat problems or something like that...

I will try and write a review of the play after I go to see it, if I remember...

Popstars vs Rockstars

It has been a long time and I have been meaning to get this link up. Now, most of you might have seen this before. I mean, it's been doing the rounds on YouTube for ages, but just in case you missed it...

Here is the original, by Nickelback and their lovely singer who was voted the ugliest rocker in history (obviously people have forgotten Mr Steven Tyler or Mick Jagger or any of all the other ugly singers out there)

And then there is this little gem, worth of the great master that is "Weird Al" Yankovic. Which means I am going to have to list my top ten of his since I have his complete discography on my iPod (sad I know, but the man is good)

Please, watch, enjoy, and pass it on to those who might have had the misfortune of missing out of this gem.

New Stock Market Information

Following the problems in the sub-prime lending market in America and the run on Northern Rock in the UK, uncertainty has now hit Japan. In the last 7 days Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of its branches. Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived. While Samurai Bank are soldiering on following sharp cutbacks, Ninja Bank are reported to have taken a hit, but they remain in the black. Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where it is feared that staff may get a raw deal.
